Limestone County Circuit and District Courts
Limestone County is Alabama's 39th Judicial Circuit. The Circuit and District judges sit at the Limestone County Courthouse in Athens, and Circuit Clerk Kelly Davis keeps both courts' records. Alabama's Unified Judicial System places Circuit Court above the county's District and Municipal Courts for trial and appeal purposes. Circuit Court is the general-jurisdiction court. Judge Wise is the presiding Circuit Judge. Each judge serves the 39th Judicial Circuit structure, while the Circuit Clerk manages the official case record and court business.
Limestone County Court Jurisdiction Compared

Limestone County Lower Court Paths
Athens Municipal Court handles Athens ordinance and municipal traffic matters. Its public office can be reached at (256) 233-8733 or court@athensal.us. The court tells defendants that some matters do not require an appearance and directs them to contact the office for options. Probate Court is led by Judge Charles Woodroof at 100 South Clinton Street, Suite D, Athens. It handles estates, wills, guardianships, conservatorships, marriage certificates, adoption, involuntary commitment, name changes, and real-property recordings. At the state appellate level, civil and criminal appeals split between the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals and Court of Criminal Appeals. The Supreme Court of Alabama is the highest state court and has exclusive appellate jurisdiction in certain matters, including appeals where the amount in controversy exceeds $50,000 and Public Service Commission appeals.
